Spot As it came rushing towards us 100wc

It was my birthday and we were opening one of my many presents with my sister Jessie, it was weird how it had lots of little holes in the top and it was slightly shaking, me and my sister opened it and we saw  the cutest most fluffy dog. As it came rushing towards us we  knew to call it spot, because of the huge spot on its nose. He licked me and patted it gently on the nose.

“I’ll call you spot,” my sister said in a welcoming tone.

Bark it said approvingly

Character Analysis

Physical-

All we know is he is a cat with fairly large ears.

They had a young boy with them and he came down to see me. He sat down by me and told me I had very big ears.

Towards the start we begin to relies he is some form of animal. We know this from how he acts and how comfortable he is in the outdoors.  Then at the end we find out he is cat from what the young boy (Ethan) says,

“Come on Sammie, here puss puss.

I don’t think there were any major changes in his physical form. I think being a cat is an important part of the story. I don’t he cares much about how he looks.

In my head I had imagined him to be a ginger cat. What colour did you think he was?

Intellectual-

I think being a cat he is a lot smarter than other animals around him. I think if he was smarter he would have not been kicked out of his owner’s home and he probably would care more about being kicked out. But I think being a cat he is relatively dumb compared to the family in the story.

I had to walk around at night to get food for myself. People left food out at their back doors and I knew exactly where to go and find it.

I feel like this story is very fictional in the way the cat thinks in the story.  I think he is smart to have not gotten himself killed and not to have gotten run over by a car. I also think it smart of him to know where and how to find food

Emotional-

Overall he feels very well looked after. I think at the start he is not particularly happy because he got kicked out by his owner, but towards the end he gets a lot happier because of meeting the new family and he feels like he has a home. He feels like he truly has a home at the end, we can tell by how natural he acts.

They have become my forever family.

And

I sleep on his bed every night.

He cares a lot about Ethan (the boy) we can from the last line.

“Come on Sammie, here puss puss puss. Come in, its cold outside.” And when he arrives home every afternoon he picks me up and cuddles me. He is worth purring for.

I feel like this cat is very resilient because he is still optimistic when he doesn’t have a home and when the family comes along that’s just a bonus for him.

Social-

He gets along the best with Ethan (the young boy) in the text. Sammie (the cat) chooses the family as his friends because they were kind enough to let him in.

He seemed nice and I heard his mum saying that I looked hungry. Soon after they left and came back with some food for me.

And

Then I saw the family.

The mum came in with a big comfortable looking box with a fluffy blanket in it.

I knew when the family all stood and looked at me that they wanted me to get inside the box. I jumped right in. Wow, I thought, I have a nice kind family. They all moved in that day.

These two paragraphs show how much they care about him. I feel like on the social ladder he feels like he at the top but really he is towards the bottom.

Of course I rule the roost, after all, I was here first, but I have no complaints.

Him having a family has a huge effect in the story because he doesn’t have to live outside in the cold.

Philosophical-

I feel like this character wants to do great things in life and wants to be the best he can be. I feel like he just wants to do well in life and make the right choices, this effects how he looks at opportunities. If he wants to do well in life I think he will make the right choices. And will live a positive happy life.

I also think he is a very grateful cat and doesn’t take things for granted.

Wow, I thought, I have a nice kind family.

100WC Sea lions

I think it’s very important we look after sea lions as their population is declining in Australia at 14,700  . This is due to us polluting their waters and due too climate change .  They are currently endangered in Australia.

Did you know?

1- They can swim up to 40 kph

2- Can live between 20-30 years

3-  Females weigh between 95 – 181 kg

4- Males weigh between 270 – 360 kg

5 – They eat many fish some are anchovies and herring samon

  • The sea lions scientific name is Otariinae
  • Babies sea lions are called pups

My thoughts on other people’s post

Jett-

Jetts post was interesting how he posted in dot point form. All though it was on the short side it was still good.

Ayden-

Ayden’s was also posted in dot point. It was very straight to the point and I think we had similar thoughts about the book.

Prapti’s-

Prapti’s post was very in depth and was detailed. It was interesting when she said he might of felt lonely when I didn’t think of that. I also thought a main reason that it was set in a school was because people get teased and bullied there. I think in our posts there were similar in a lot of ways.

Cushion     Scarlet     Annoying    Watered    Violin

My name is scarlet, I play the violin, I’ve been deaf since the age of four. I have an annoying little brother, Micheal. My mom is divorced and owns a cushion shop. I try to help her as much as I can but it can become quite a challenge being deaf. I am slowly learning sign language. My room is small filled with minimal furniture. I have a small cactus in the corner and it hasn’t been watered in 4 months. And my dog died last week. Yet through all of this I’m still happy.

Charles

Fiction is all about the character

The” two “main characters in this text were Laurie and “Charles” . They told us at the start of the text that he wore blue jeans and a belt and that Charles was fresh .They were both cheeky,  naughty, and both a bit of a troublemaker. You can tell that Laurie is these things because he lied about ” Charles ”  existing. I think Laurie acts this way because going to school is a big change in his life and he might of been left out or might not of fitted in and might of had trouble making friends and wasn’t used to it.I think he did all of this to sound fine about going to school and to impress his parents.

“You know what Charles did today?” Laurie demanded at the lunch table, in a voice slightly amazed. “He told a little girl to say a word and she said it and the teacher washed her mouth out with soap and Charles laughed.”

Fiction is all about what the character wants

I think overall there are three main things he wants; to be and sound cool, to impress and make his parents proud and to fit in at school.  He wants his parents to think he is not behaving poorly  and to make them think he has plenty  of friends and his having a great time at school, he just doesn’t want to be laughed at or teased in any way.

The next day Laurie spoke up as soon as returned. “Well, Charles was bad again today.” He grinned enormously and said, “Today Charles hit the teacher.”

” Charles”  just want to be the cool and popular troublemaker he wants to shake it up a bit. He wants everybody to talk about him like Laurie is.

Fiction is all about how the character gets or doesn’t get what he wants

For a short period of time he did succeed in making his parents think he did fit in and was behaving well at school. But at the end of the text lauries mother found out it was all a lie.

“Charles?” she said. “We don’t have any Charles in the class.”

We don’t know if she realized it was him or if she thought it never happened, personally I think she would known it was him because of how well she knows him. Also towards the end he did succeed in behaving better because he becomes the teachers helper. We don’t know if  was successful in making friends and fitting in.

Fiction is all about how your character changes

At the start he was dishonest, lied and wasn’t telling the truth to parents. Towards the end he stated behaving better at school  and was slightly more honest with his parents. I think he learned it’s important to tell the truth, and you should always be honest with your parents, and it’s okay to make mistakes as long as your honest. I also learnt these things from reading this.

Charles was so good today the teacher gave him an apple.”

What?” I said, and my husband added warily, “You mean Charles?”

Fiction is all about a world an author creates

I think the author chose to have the setting as a school partly because everybody knows what it’s like and also because its common for people to not fit in at school. Also because people make the wrong decisions there too it also makes sense to have it as a school because at the start you don’t know the that there are expectations and you don’t know how to act. There are three main types of people in this text, troublemakers, parents and teachers. There 2 main places, his house and his school. I  think a main theme would be friendship because he wanted to make friends.

Youtube vs Netflix

YouTube is by far my favorite over Netflix. Trust me its sooo much better.

YouTube is free compared to Netflix  which can be up to 40$ a month, YouTube has the same amount of content if not more. For us kids we can barely scrape out 5$ from our parents, how can we afford up to 40$ a month!

Also YouTube has a much wider range, from entertainment to how to fix a laptop (you can’t get that on Netflix). There are constantly new things on youtube, some youtubers upload everyday. YouTube 50 times as much content as Netflix possibly more.

YouTube is educational! I know my teacher puts on a lot of YouTube videos. You can learn how to train your dog or how to fix a car. Its so easy to find new information on YouTube.

Its  a no brainer, YouTube is my favorite, is it yours?

Flash ” But then the flash” 100wc

It was school picture day, dreaded school picture day. It was my turn, the stupid thing was, once they had taken your picture that was it they would not take it again. So I tried to look cool and do cool pose, but the then  flash made me sneeze!

” Please take another shot PLEASEEEEE,” I begged.

“Next.” he said in a stern voice like he was used to people like me. Why me,  why can’t be cool and have a cool yearbook photo.

So the annoying camera  flash made me sneeze and have by far the worst year book photo.

By the way the story was exactly 100 words!

Joseph bryant refflection

1 Themes are abstract nouns.

The main concepts of this story are; loss, love, friendship illness & death. You can clearly see it when Charlotte finds out he has cancer:

But I soon snapped back into reality once Joseph told me that he had cancer.

“Oh my goodness, congratulations Joey!”

She clearly didn’t know what he meant.

2 Themes are important human issues.

The important human issue in this is the importance of finding a cure for cancer. After reading this the author wants you to think about what it’s like to be in her shoes, what its like to grieve and loose someone you love. You can see were the author wants you to see this when:

And Joseph Bryant, my fifth grade sweetheart, is the reason why I know the true definition of love.

The first line is represents the idea of the importance of love.

3  Stories apply to many readers

I think the concept in this story that applies to many readers would be loss everyone has lost something. Also the people who truly connect with this story would people in a relationship, people who have experienced death of someone close and more mature people. you can see this when:

I would not ever cry more than I did that night. Loving someone that is gone forever is one of the hardest things you can do.

People who have experienced  this kind of loss will get something out of this story that others won’t .

Events represent ideas

I think there are 2 main figurative concepts  in this text:

Make the most of things when you have them

Don’t take anything for granted.

Its clear here; Three years went by. Three painful years of visiting Joseph every single day in the hospital. Well, almost everyday; sometimes he was too sick for me to visit.  The idea of love really ties into the whole story.  I think everybody  can relate to those 2 things deeply.

 5 Experience evolves in patterns

The repeating pattern in this text is how she continues to visit him most days in hospital even though his conditions continue to decline

He struggled and watching him struggle was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. But towards the end, I could see him slowing down.

You can tell how much she cares about him from this pattern of visiting everyday even though she knows its getting worse.

6 Fiction is instructional

The message on  the theme loss, would be you never know what its like to loose something until you’ve lost it. The message on the topic of love  would be, it always hurts to loose someone no matter how long you love them. And the message for friendship, would be a true friend cares for you in the darkest of times
